Where do I get a window like that!?

Kathy & I are late but great fans of Firefly/Serenity. As you probably already know, to the sadness of many a scifi fan the series was (insanely) killed just when it was hitting it's stride. If you agree you'll this rather good.

Wheels!

It's a jade metallic green, has an understated, refined manner with just a little attitude. Perfect for home defence.

Pics and more words on the weekend.

Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz...

After months of procrastinating, I'm getting the Honda looked at on Monday. The prognosis isn't good and it's likely the trusty car with the broken engine will have to be sent off to the glue factory. The cost of a replacement engine (the cheapest option from all accounts) is likely to be over the is-it-worth-it threshold.

The lovely Kathy has been incredibly patient in sharing her car in the meantime but it's time I stopped imposing. So tomorrow I'll be kicking tyres...

Stay tuned.

Thirty nine and you need some leeway

On Alloy the regulars have been discussing one of the Gentleman's many brilliant tracks, Leipzig. It's an eloquent depiction of someone whose life has gone a little... stale. Mine definitely isn't that, thanks mostly to the lovely Kathy, but I can appreciate how it might happen. Ennui is the word that comes to mind. Atrophy and apathy are a couple of others.

Anyway, whenever I hear this song I think of this animation (or is it the other way around?) It's a beautiful, deceptively simple looking piece of work created by a gifted artist as a Seasons Greetings for his clients. How cool is that? My dear friend Robin Hazen switched me on to this a couple of years ago. It's actually a nice little interlude. Have a look, oh and you must visit the UFO. :-)

Introducing Fly Guy. Thanks Trevor for bring us this!

Roger Baily: 26/05/1939 - 26/02/2006.

My dad passed away today at 6:30am (GMT+10:00.)

I don't have words right now. Words would be inadequate. Words could paint only a pale imitation of the beautiful, loving, decent, honourable man he was.

Rest in peace dad.

-

I am Paul, son of Roger, of the clan Baily.

Endgame.

The time we were expecting/fearing is near. Tuesday night my sister Cath called. Dad had taken a drastic turn for the worse. He can't eat, can't swallow, can't talk. The medicos are saying he probably won't see out the week. Last night my brother Marc called, it's estimated Dad has (as of yesterday) 24-48 hours to go.

Kathy and I are heading over as soon as we can to be with the family so I'll be off the air for the next week.

An update about Dad.

Those who know how the last stages of such cancers progress are saying that he could go at any time, but it'll likely in the next few weeks rather than months.

We're on standby to get over there at a moment's notice. I only wish I had some massive store of annual leave so I could afford to be over there now.

Time to start shopping for a tweed jacket, leather elbow patches. (Oh and a car.)

Last week I officially started as a permanent employee at the university.

w00t!

Big, big, big pay cut, but it's worth it.

Now, to do something about the car which is still sitting in our garage with a fatally broken engine. If I'm very lucky it may be worth repairing, otherwise it'll be off to the glue factory with it and I'll somehow have to get some new wheels.

:-(

From the "As If That Weren't Enough" file.

fate: <looking up from paperwork and over bifocals> Oh uh, Baily?
baily: <rolls eyes, composes, turns slowly> yeeess?
fate: one more thing...
baily: <turns away, begins to count slowly to ten...> ...

Yes, it's time for that end of season cliffhanger...

A new Icehouse/Iva Davies track: Surgery.

This is the fourth(?) track from a forthcoming album Bi-polar Poems that Iva will one day (soon? please be soon!) release. It's incredibly cool that he chooses to let us fans in on the secret by offering previews of the work.

I'll rabbit on a bit about this track (Surgery) after the cut but if you want to hear it (and believe me, you do!) run, don't walk, over to the Icehouse site and have at it.

I like, Centurion. I like!

I like to listen to new music, but like many out there, I have a comfort zone. Thanks to the one and only Fark (yes, educational and informative - I just read it for the articles) I ran into a very interesting site: Pandora. Pandora asks you to enter the name of an artist or song you like and, provided it's heard of it, plays you a track, then some more that it thinks may be similarly appealing, asking you to rate them. Just pushing the envelope a wee bit.

Very, very cool.

But why don't they know about Icehouse yet? :-)
